The Final Tally -- 4.7 Billion Tunes in to Beijing 2008 – More Than Two in Three People Worldwide: Nielsen
The 2008 Beijing Olympics set many world records, with the latest being the Most Watched Games ever. According to latest intelligence from The Nielsen Company , the Beijing Olympic Games attracted the cumulative eyeballs of 4.7 billion viewers over the 17 days from August 8 to August 24, ‘out-viewing’ the 3.9 billion who followed the Athens 2004 Games by 21 percent, and the 3.6 billion who tuned in to the Sydney Games in 2000 by 31 percent, or 1.1 billion additional viewers.

U.S. consumers are making fewer shopping trips across most retail outlets as they look for ways to combine errands and save money in an effort to battle rising gas prices and other economic pressures, according to The Nielsen Company. Nielsen’s consumer packaged goods (CPG) research shows that while shopping frequency across most retail channels is flat or on decline, supercenters , which enable consumers to combine shopping trips with more items in one store, continue to show growth.

Nielsen: High Egg Prices Won’t Stop Easter Egg Hunts
Rising egg prices won’t lighten the Easter Bunny’s load this spring, with U.S. retail sales of eggs expected to top more than $95 million during the holiday week, according to The Nielsen Company. Eager for festive Easter baskets, U.S. consumers are expected to purchase more than 17 million egg coloring/dye kits during the week leading up to the holiday. Chocolate candy is also strong with more than $318 million in sales expected during the week leading up to Easter, second only to Valentine’s Day .

Nielsen Reports DVR Playback Is Adding to TV Viewing Levels
Playback from Digital Video Recorders (DVRs) is increasing the amount of time people spend watching television, according to new data from The Nielsen Company. In comparing total television usage (Live viewing plus DVR playback) for persons 18-49 in November, 2007 to total television usage in November, 2005 (before Nielsen measured DVR homes and penetration was very low) Nielsen found that viewing had increased slightly throughout the day, and was three percent higher at 9:00 p.m. and five percent higher between 11:00 p.m. and midnight.
